On January 17, 1950, the largest robbery in U.S. history took place in Boston’s North End, a daring heist that became known as the “crime of the century.” The theft netted $2.775 million in cash, checks, and securities, and for years the case appeared nearly flawless. Just five days before the statute of limitations expired, the FBI finally made an arrest—bringing this almost perfect crime to a dramatic close.
