What is this?
Bob Larner and his wife, Anne, have been members of Newton at Home since we opened in 2011.
Bob has been an active direct service volunteer since that time. He also currently serves on our Board of Directors, where he has served VP for three years (FY 2012-2014) and as Treasurer for the following two years (FY2015-2016). More recently, he served as our interim treasurer last fiscal year.
Bob has a Ph.D. in economics and has taught at Brandeis (six years) and at Harvard and Boston College (one semester each). He also served two years at the Federal Trade Commission in Washington, doing research and managing some of the staff of economists. He spent most of his professional career at Charles River Associates, where he served as a senior researcher and vice president before retiring in 2009.
A special joy from his time in Newton was his three seasons as a youth soccer coach, two as coach of a team of girls and one coaching a team of boys.
Anne has master’s degrees in American History and in Public Management. She headed a small public agency for a number of years, served 16 years as a member of the Newton School Committee (eight as chair), and has a long history of involvement in civic affairs in Newton, including successes in nonprofit fundraising -- most recently for the
Newton Beacon.
Bob and Anne have lived in Newton since 1973. They have three children, five grandchildren, and their first great-grandchild. Come hear what Bob has to say about his dynamic career, great-grandparenthood, and many contributions as an active member of Newton at Home for more than a decade.
Please call the office at 617-795-2560 to register. All members and volunteers are welcome; free. Meets on Zoom. Advance registration is required.
