Becoming a Newton at Home Volunteer

Volunteerism is a cornerstone of the Village model, drawing upon people in our community to support each other. Volunteers provide services, resources, and community activities that make a positive difference in the lives of members.Volunteer 2019

Why Volunteer?

  • You stay active – physically, mentally and socially
  • You make a real difference in improving the quality of others' lives by providing a member the peace of mind that a neighbor is there for them
  • You get to know more neighbors and make new friends
  • You 'pay it forward', knowing that some day you may also need support
  • Your sense of well-being and accomplishment will be enhanced by volunteering (substantiated by recent medical research)
  • You put your skills and expertise to good use
  • You have positive and rewarding experiences bringing more fun and fulfillment to your life

Who Can Volunteer?

  • Anyone! We are enthusiastic about having volunteers of all ages and backgrounds. You can volunteer as an individual, as a family, or as group, on your own time and in your own neighborhood.

How Does it Work?

  • Volunteering at NAH is very flexible. Volunteers can choose what services they want to offer, and when and where they want to offer them without being locked into a fixed schedule. When a request comes in for a service, we contact those who volunteered to perform that particular type of service.  If you can do it, you respond yes.
  • Your schedule is in your hands. There is no expectation that you will volunteer at a particular time or interval. Snowbirds and those who are away for the summer are welcome!

What Can You Do?

  • You can choose to provide direct services to members such as transportation to medical appointments or shopping, making friendly visits or telephone check-in calls, assist with technology or provide handyman and technology services.
  • You can also provide organizational support by serving on committees, working in the office, helping with member/volunteer recruitment, planning and coordinating events, assisting with communications and newsletter publication, or serving on our Board of Directors.

How to Get Started

  • Contact our Volunteer Coordinator (contact info below).
  • Complete our Volunteer Application.
  • Meet with our Volunteer Coordinator to determine eligibility and interests.
  • Attend an orientation session.
  • Complete the vetting and confidential background check. This is a simple process for most and the fees are covered. To ensure comfort and safety for those receiving services, we vet our volunteers. A background check of public records is done.
  • Note: Volunteer drivers use their own vehicles and their own insurance coverage. A copy of the current driver’s license, automobile registration, and auto insurance card must be on file with Newton at Home. Volunteers may report gas and mileage costs as deductible charitable contributions for income tax purposes. If parking fees are incurred while on a volunteer driving assignment, these fees are to be paid by the Village member (the passenger).
Volunteers are the backbone of Newton at Home. Can you commit to a few hours once or twice a month?
