This presentation about Dutch Masters at the MFAH focuses on a selection of Flemish and Dutch works spanning the 15th century to the present. We'll briefly discuss the Museum's beginnings in relation to the collection of Dutch art, we'll touch on the different styles, genres, and delve into the specific social and historical context as well as the influence of the Dutch Masters on the development of Western art. Marianne van Arkel-Priest will guide our conversation. Marianne is a Senior Docent at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston where she has been a Docent for over ten years. Born and raised in the Netherlands, she studied Art History in Vienna, Austria and holds a master’s degree in Germanistics. She continued her studies attending a master’s program in Museology at the Amsterdam School for the Arts in the Netherlands. She served as Chair of the Docent Council of MFAH for three years and is Vice President of a small independent oil and gas company.
