Art used to be so easy to enjoy, beautiful portraits, impressive landscapes, historical battle scenes, representations of religious beliefs. Then something happened—MODERN ART! Modern art followed new rules, rules that seemed to leave beauty behind. After that came contemporary art which seemed to follow no rules at all! Can anything be art? How might we make sense of this radical change that emerged over the last century? This presentation will offer some perspectives that may—or may not—lead to avenues of appreciation for modern and contemporary art.
