Remember "The Bridges of Madison County"? Well, here are 2 covered bridges off the Kancamagus Highway in north-central New Hampshire. The Bath bridge is right in the town of Bath. I liked the late afternoon light streaming through the windows on its left side. The other images are all of the Swiftwater bridge, which crosses the Ammonoosuc River. Although these old bridges are scenic and beautiful, my favorite thing is to walk slowly around inside, enjoying and appreciating the engineering that went into building them. When I put my hands on the timbers, I feel in touch with our New England history.
