About this event
Did you know Newton Corner was the site of one of New England’s first commercial nurseries? Put yourself back in time to when the Kenrick family cultivated fruit trees, ornamental trees, and shrubberies. Travel the original acreage of the nursery, see an 1882 Kenrick house, and visit the Durant-Kenrick House and Grounds. As nature allows, taste fruit from Durant-Kenrick’s own historic gardens.
The tour will last approximately 1.5 hours and will cover just over 1 mile. We will walk on paved terrain that features some inclines and declines. Please wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather. Weather permitting. We ask that all participants remain together as a group.
The tour will start and end outside the Durant-Kenrick House and Grounds, located at 286 Waverley Ave. There is a very small parking lot at the museum and plenty of on-street parking on the even side of Waverly Ave and Kenrick St. Once you arrive look for a Historic Newton staff member holding a sign. Allison Pagliaro of Historic Newton will be our guide.
Please email info@newtonathome.org or call the office at 617-795-2560 to register. All members and volunteers are welcome to attend. Ride requests accepted through October 2. Free. Fee for guide paid by Newton at Home.
